Global internet search engine giant Google will train two million new Android developers in the next three years, its chief executive Sundar Pichai said here on Thursday. “As per the new plan (by Google), we will train two million Android developers in partnership with 30 universities. This will be done over the time period of next three years. “For me, getting many developers in the workforce are going to solve many new things,” the Indian-origin CEO, who is on a three-day visit to India - his first after becoming the CEO of the restructured Google, said at the Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC). He later called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who said he had “a very good meeting” with Pichai. “Had a very good meeting with Google CEO,” Modi tweeted. Agressive batting displays from opener Seekkuge Prasanna, skipper Mahmudullah and Shahriar Nafees helped Barisal Bulls post 156 for 4 against Comilla Victorians in the final of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2015 on Tuesday. Winning the toss at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Comilla skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza invited Barisal to bat first. After his departure, Mashrafe bowled in-form Sabbir Rahman on nine, but Nafees blasted 44 in 31 balls while Mahmudullah fired 48 off 36 deliveries to take the Bulls forward. Prime minister Sheikh Hasina has terming her government’s decision to build the Padma Bridge with the country’s own fund a challenge. She said Bangladesh wants to show the world by implementing this dream project that it has acquired the capacity to implement any mega project. “The heroic Bangalee nation who had earned Independence through an armed struggle raised its head high today …they now want assistance from their development partners, not alms,” she said. The premier came up with the remarks while addressing the groundbreaking ceremony of the Padma multipurpose bridge project and river training work at Janzira. She first opened the river training work at Naodoba in Janzira by unveiling a plaque and later inaugurated the groundbreaking of the main bridge at Mawa point by unveiling another plaque. Terming the day a ‘Red Letter Day’ for the people of the country and a day of happiness, especially for those of southern Bangladesh, Hasina said her government remained firm to bu

ICC targets world T20 on US soil

Cricket chiefs hope to stage a Twenty20 World Cup in the United States within a decade as the game ramps up efforts to crack the huge American sports market, a report said Tuesday. The International Cricket Council’s head of global development Tim Anderson said the world governing body had ambitions to further popularise the sport in a country more used to baseball, basketball and gridiron. While still alien to many Americans, thousands travelled from the United States to this year’s 50-over one-day World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, while a lucrative broadcast deal with the United States is already worth big money to ICC. “If we continue to make good progress, we would (hope to) see a World Twenty20 in the USA in the next rights cycle,” Anderson told the Sydney Daily Telegraph, with the newspaper pointing to 2024 as the likely date. “We think that’d be a great concept. Other sports have done that, not just football, but rugby are doing that with major events as well so we see
